The Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC) is an association with 2700 members and member organisations in 40 countries. Founded in 1989 with the aim of promoting coastal conservation by bridging the gap between scientists, environmentalists, site managers, planners and policy makers, it has grown since then into the largest network of coastal practitioners and experts in Europe, with 15 National Branches and offices in seven countries. Our working area is Europe, the Mediterranean and Black Sea and other neighbouring regions.
The Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC) is dedicated to conserving and maintaining healthy seas and attractive coasts for both people and nature. EUCC advocates best practice by developing coastal and marine policies, mobilising experts and stakeholders, providing advice and information, and implementing demonstration projects.
Furthermore, Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC) has joint forces with The ECNC – European Centre for Nature Conservation and EUCC Mediterranean Centre by establishing the ECNC Group.

EUCC in the Mediterranean region
November 2003, the EUCC Mediterranean Centre was officially inaugurated in Barcelona, Spain.
EUCC Mediterranean Centre was founded with the objective of supporting EUCC’s activities, EUCC members and its National Branches in this geographical area, as well as developing new initiatives in cooperation with other NGOs, research institutes and government agencies.
Our priorities in the Mediterranean are the promotion and implementation of coastal and marine ecosystems restoration, sustainable development and education and training. To this aim, EUCC Mediterranean Centre will continue promoting the development of ICZM policy, strategies and plans as an instrument to achieve sustainable development along European coasts.
